kyle's last stretch of schooling is about to end (in like a few hours), and i don't know if you know this, but SCAD finals are no joke. i'm not sure when the all-nighters started, but they have almost become normal for him.
basically it goes like this: get up early. drink 20 cups of coffee. eat oatmeal for the 19138018th time. begin the creative process for the day (whatever that means). work alldaylong until your girlfriend is begging you to stop exacto-knifing and spray-adhesiving for an hour so you can go eat something, because there has been no time for grocery shopping and the only thing left in the kitchen is the heals of an old loaf of bread. "what do you mean it's 8 o'clock already??" come home. work more. decide around 4 a.m. that it would be easier to just stay up the extra three hours until the sun comes up and then just go on to class. wake up your girlfriend and tell her you're leaving and she realizes you never came to bed. she gets up an hour later and tries to finish your paper for you. come home from class. repeat.
this is what's been going on in our little apartment on east 44th street. and as you can tell from the picture above, it's a disaster. scraps of paper. glued. to. the. floor.
you know how there are first ladies and army wives? well having a boyfriend who goes to art school makes you realize another form of partnership -- art student girlfriends. not everyone can do this, trust me. when he hasn't shaved for a month because he either doesn't have time or is too tired, you just have to deal with it, ladies. and when he wears the same shirt to dinner that he slept in last night, just look the other way.
luckily, kyle has always been good at staying positive, even when he's exhausted or stressed. so even when i feel stressed for him, he's cool as a cucumber. i'll never understand that, but i'm thankful nonetheless.
so here we are, only hours from the end (he's napping as i type this), and i couldn't be happier for him. no more classes. ever. it's been a long, rough road, and i'm glad we're at the end of it.
congratulations, kjd. and peace out, savannah college of art and design.
